The Super Moon’s a Purim Balloon!

PURIM.2.12“who knows if the moon's...”

“who knows if the moon's
a balloon,coming out of a keen city
in the sky--filled with pretty people?
(and if you and i should
get into it,if they
should take me and take you into their balloon,
why then
we'd go up higher with all the pretty people
than houses and steeples and clouds:
go sailing
away and away sailing into a keen
city which nobody's ever visited,where
always
        it's
               Spring)and everyone's
in love and flowers pick themselves”

(e. e. cummings)

I was not the only one to note the coincidence of the Jewish festival of Purim and the rare ‘super moon’ which illuminated the world on Saturday evening.

Joe Dowd of Plainview Patch, New York, USA .wrote:

“There's a lunar perigee tonight, when the moon passes at its closest point to our planet in 18 years (356,577 kilometres; 221,567 miles.)

“The event — also called a “super moon,” occurs when a new or full moon is at 90 per cent of its closest orbit to earth. The moon will be full and at 100 per cent on Saturday night, and clear skies are predicted.”

Now look what we saw in Karmiel, Galilee, Northern Israel …

SUPER.MOON.ST.MICHAELS.TOWER.GLASTONBURY.TOR.SOMERSET

and compare it with what was seen in Somerset, U.K.

But even more exciting is what happened indoors in Karmiel – both on Saturday night at the Kehillat Hakerem Synagogue and then on Sunday afternoon at a variety show hosted by the municipality along with various sponsors.

I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves …

Best wishes for a Purim sameach – happy Purim to my Jewish readers - and a very good week to everyone else!
