As the celebrations begin  for the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, the President of Israel has been in the vanguard of world leaders wishing her well. This is more evidence – should it be needed – of international  Jewry’s deep love of and strong loyalty to the Queen which is fused with, not separate from, its devotion to Israel.

Q.E.11.Prince PhilipMr Shimon Peres, who has an honorary British knighthood, wrote on Tuesday 07 February – only one day after ‘Accession Day’:

“Your Majesty

“It is my great privilege, on behalf of the State of Israel and its people, to convey my heartfelt congratulations on the occasion of the Diamond Jubilee marking 60 years of your magnificent reign.

“Your Majesty, these past 60 years have spanned many dramatic chapters of history that affected the United Kingdom of Great Britain and the world at large. Throughout you constituted a symbol of dignity, stability and unity, earning the respect of all, and your distinguished service and leadership were a model for many. Today, in a world that again faces historic changes and yearns for peace, you once again represent the much-needed constant in these turbulent times.,and a bridge of hope for the younger generation that aspires for a better future.

“Your Majesty, Israel has deep-rooted historic ties with Great Britain and its legacy in our society lives on. I am confident that we shall continue to build on these firm foundations of friendship and common values, and we look forward to celebrating together with you many more Jubilees in the years to come.

“With my warmest and most respectful good wishes on this happy occasion.Shimon.Peres
