Young Or Old – Please Support Israel’s U.N. Fight

I’m relieved to learn that the laughably craven GOLDSTONE REPORT on Israel’s war in Gaza itself continues to be the subject of harsh criticism.

If the report were  to be accepted by the United Nations Human Rights Council in March next year, Israel could be brought before the International Criminal Court.

Jonathan Hoffman of the Zionist Federation, who is spearheading  a petition to the Prime Minister begging that the UK opposes the report, points out that the petition may be signed by all – including  children – who are U.K. residents or British citizens abroad.

Hoffman’s petition reads:

'We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to declare the UK’s opposition to the Goldstone Report and to ensure its rejection when a vote is taken in the UN Human Rights Council in March 2010.

‘We believe that the report was biased against Israel from the announcement of the UN Mission’s mandate.

This was compounded by its composition, by the selectivity of the incidents it investigated, by the witnesses it interviewed and by its almost  complete failure  to  refer  to  terrorism and to the defensive context of Israel’s operation in Gaza in January 2009.'

Unsurprisingly, the Palestine Solidarity Committee is petitioning Number 10 to approve the report.

The commission and its findings have been given unwonted credence by being headed by a well-known Jewish pro-Zionist judge, Richard Goldstone whose own daughter has lived in Israel.

In my view this is another case of an intelligent member of the tribe executing all manner of contortions in an effort to appear even-handed.

Further, those far cleverer and knowledgeable than me point out that aside from all the arguments proving pro-terrorist bias, Judge Goldstone used the same measures as when he headed the  ‘Truth and Reconciliation’ tribunals in  post-apartheid  South Africa.

Israel, whatever its legion internal failings, is NOT, AND NEVER WILL BE, APARTHEID. It is a vicious calumny to suggest otherwise.

Moreover, during Operation Cast Lead, Israel was forced to prosecute an ‘asymmetric’ war – a professional army fighting terrorists. It was not a war between two sovereign states.

• Further, only last week, an Israel Air Force air-craft targeted and hit a rocket launcher ready to be fired at Israel. 

• Approximately 55 rockets and mortar shells were launched at Israel during the past three months, totalling more than 250 since the end of Operation Cast Lead and more than 750 in 2009. Furthermore, throughout 2008, over 3300 rockets and mortars were fired from the Gaza Strip at Israel.
