Ben-Gurion University Staff Forced To Separate Professional and Civil Activities

Stuart.PalmerI pass on, without  comment, important information about The Ben Gurion University of the Negev.

Stuart Palmer of the International Citizens Action Network for Israel reported yesterday (Thursday) that the Israeli university has “seriously reconsidered its regulations as a result of abuse by some of its academic staff and a new set of advisory principles have been drawn up.”

  • Academic staff are now required to separate between professional and civil activity.
  • Expression of personal political/religious opinion/affiliation within the classroom is unacceptable.
  • Academic staff are no longer permitted to use the name of the university (Ben-Gurion University of the Negev) as an academic affiliation for civil or religious activity that is unrelated to classroom teaching or research activity.
  • Academic staff are to urged to refrain from signing petitions calling for, or supporting, an academic boycott of any Israeli institution of higher learning.

Stuart concludes: “I believe many academic institutions around the world should be doing the same thing.”
