Karmielis Celebrate In Street-Style!

The citizens of Karmiel were among thousands of Israelis who took to the streets on Monday evening this week to mark the end of the High Holy Days’ season.

All were celebrating the tradition of ‘Second Hakafot’ which concludes the festivals of Simchat Torah and Sukkot.

A Times of Israel report explained : “Second Hakafot is a tradition that is held to show solidarity with Jews in the Diaspora, who celebrate two days of the Simchat Torah holiday. Simchat Torah marks the end of the previous year’s cycle of Bible readings and the start of a new cycle.”

My pictures, snapped by my husband, Brian Fink, show revellers in high spirits outside Karmiel’s attractive town hall. The entire religious spectrum was represented on the night with devout women being given a separated screened-off area in which they could socialise and dance.
